Cap Part Definitions.

DT11 Cap Parts Diagram
  • Crown: The entire top of the cap; the parts the envelop your head.
  • Panels: Panels are individual pieces of fabric that form the structure of the cap's crown. A typical baseball cap consists of five or six panels.
  • Buckram: Buckram is a stiff, woven fabric inserted into the front two panels of the crown to give the cap its structured shape.
  • Profile: The profile of a baseball cap refers to the shape or height of the crown, which determines how the cap fits on the head. There are typically three main profiles: Low profile, mid profile, and high profile.
  • Visor: The piece of plastic or cardboard attached to the front of the crown and is covered with fabric. Also commonly called the bill, brim, or peak, it can be flat, pre-curved, or slightly pre-curved.
  • Eyelet: Caps typically have six embroidered ventilation holes, one in each panel, to promote airflow. However, when the cap includes mesh panels at the back, the eyelets are often not added, as the mesh provides the necessary ventilation.
  • Button: The small round button that sits on the top of the cap, and can be made of metal or plastic and covered in fabric. It helps hold all the panels together.
  • Inner Tape: The inner tape covers the seams where the cap panels are joined, creating a smoother interior surface. This helps prevent discomfort from exposed stitches, ensuring a more comfortable fit for the wearer.
  • Sweatband: The sweatband is the fabric strip that lines the inside bottom of the crown, where it rests against the head. It serves several functions, including enhancing comfort and helping to wick away moisture. Some sweatbands are designed with cooling properties, which can lower the temperature of the fabric by 5 degrees or more.
